Breaking the Language Barrier
Have you ever worked in a culturally-diverse organization? In such an environment, a certain level of consideration is required to understand one another’s culture. It takes effort to facilitate a harmonious working environment and relationship among employees.
However, it doesn’t end there. The weight of the challenge lies in breaking the language barrier amongst employees, particularly for organizations which have hundreds of employees across the globe. The communication process is not always 100% precise, especially for those whose native tongue is not English.
IBM seems to address this challenge within their organization. The process of finding a solution to this challenge has lead IBM to use translation software called ‘n.Fluent’. It has the capacity to translate documents, web pages and instant messages from English to 11 other languages. The system is not yet available publicly as the translations are still being refined for greater accuracy.
The details of the ‘n.Fluent’ translation software can be read in Lance Whitney’s article ‘IBM Taps into Group Language Translation’ on CNET News.
