The 4th Machine Translation Marathon- adjudged a huge success

The Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CGNL) along with the National Centre for Language Technology hosted the Machine Translation Marathon (MTM) 2010 in the Dublin City University from the 23rd of Jan 2010, to the 30th of the month. The MTM was on behalf of the EuroMatrixPlus Consortium, which is a Machine Translation research project. This is the fourth marathon in which a huge number of researchers, developers, students, and users of machine translation from all the over the globe attended to hear the experts on the subject matter, lecture and demonstrate them on what’s latest in the field.

French Translation Contest!

The French Institute is calling out to all the translators based out of UK to take part and bag the French Institute Translation Prize 2010. This prize is aimed at discovering the hidden talent in the field, promote translation as a career, and to portray the challenges and excitement in the profession of translation. This is also a sure way to encourage the budding translators to consider their passion seriously and at the same time give them a platform to prove themselves. The institute has invited all unpublished translators based out of UK to participate in the contest.

This is the second year that the institute is hosting this contest. The contest requires the contestants to translate two extracts from contemporary French novels to English. The pieces are Black Bazar by Alain Mabanckou (Editions du Seuil, 2009), and Un Homme louche by François Beaune (Editions Verticales, 2009. Read more of this article »
