Ghana Flag Description:
Three equal horizontal bands of red (top), yellow, and green with a large black five-pointed star centered in the yellow band; uses the popular pan-African colors of Ethiopia; similar to the flag of Bolivia, which has a coat of arms centered in the yellow band.
Ghana Flag Information:
Adopted in 1957, the Ghana flag designed by Mrs Theodosia Okoh is hugely influenced by the flag of Ethiopia and likewise consists of the colors like red, Gold and green in consequent horizontal stripes with a black 5 pointed star in the center. The colors on the flag are typically African in essence. In the years in between 1964 and 1966 there was a white strip added to the original structure of the map but that was later removed.
The flag was adopted after Ghana gained independence from the British and hence the use of the color red in the flag signifies the blood of the martyrs in the freedom struggle. Gold denotes the mineral wealth of the country and green is the symbol for its rich natural vegetation. The black star is said to symbolize the lodestar that was used in the freedom struggle.
