Haya Language Facts:
Haya (OluHaya) is one of the Niger-Congo languages spoken by the people of Tanzania, west and northwest of Lake Victoria. It is one of a group of languages spoken in that area. The Haya people are a rather large tribe, numbering some 1,000,000, who live from the lake south into Nyamwez i-Sukuma country. Haya is related to Nyamwezi (which means people of the moon).
The Haya language can be heard in the film Return of the Jedi (1983), from the Star Wars series. The character Nien Nunb, of the fictional Sullustan species, was voiced by a Kenyan called Kipsang Rotich in his native tongue.
