Barbados is generally flat along the coast with an increase in height as one moves inland. Mount Hillaby, the highest point on the island, is 1104 feet (336 m) above sea level and is located in the parish of St. Andrew.
Barbados has a tropical climate. The average temperature of 26.1oC (79oF) is maintained by over 3000 hours of sunshine each year and the north-east trade winds which vary between 6 mph (10 km/h) and 9 mph (15 km/h) all year round. The lowest temperatures occur between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. during late December and January. (The lowest temperature ever recorded in Barbados was 18oC). The sun is hottest between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. which can raise the temperature as high as 31oC during the dry season and the summer months.
