Certified Birth Certificate Translation

$24.95per page (up to 250 words), certificate of accuracy included

We translate birth certificates from any language into English and certify them for $24.95. Most birth certificates fit on one page, so that is usually the whole price. You get a signed certificate of accuracy that meets the USCIS rule in 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3), and the PDF arrives within 24 hours for most orders. If an office also wants a notary seal or an apostille, we handle that here too, because our notary works in the same office at 55 Broadway in New York.

What we translate

What goes into a birth certificate translation

Birth certificates look very different from one country to the next. A Mexican acta de nacimiento carries a CURP number and the registry book and page. A birth certificate from mainland China is usually a notarial certificate issued by a notary office. Indian certificates often come in two languages already, with a number from the municipal registrar. Ukrainian and Russian certificates use a fixed form with a series and number. Our translators see all of these every week.

We translate every entry: names, dates and places, the parents' details, registration numbers, the registrar's name, and every stamp, seal and handwritten note. Later additions, such as a recognition of paternity or a corrected name, are often written on the back or in the margin. They are part of the record and USCIS expects them in English as well, so send photos of both sides.

Names are spelled as they appear in the original, or as they appear in your passport if you tell us. We don't change dates or reorder names unless you ask. If something can't be read, the translation says [illegible] rather than guessing.

Who asks for it

Who asks for a translated birth certificate

Most of our birth certificate orders are for immigration. USCIS asks for one with many family-based filings, including the I-130 petition for a relative, the I-485 green card application and the N-600 application for a certificate of citizenship. The National Visa Center asks for the same document when a case moves to a US consulate abroad.

Plenty of orders have nothing to do with immigration. Social Security offices, DMVs issuing a REAL ID, schools enrolling a child, courts handling a name change or custody case, and insurers or pension funds checking a date of birth all ask for an English translation when the certificate is in another language. One certified translation works for all of them. If several offices each want their own copy, order extra certified copies at $10 each instead of paying for the translation twice.

Price & turnaround

What it costs

A birth certificate is almost always one page, so the usual total is $24.95. A long-form certificate with notes on the back can run to two pages. We confirm the count before you pay.

Requirements

What USCIS expects from a birth certificate translation

The rule is 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3). Every document in a foreign language has to come with a full English translation and the translator's signed statement that the translation is complete and accurate and that the translator is competent to translate. USCIS does not require a notary seal.

It also has to be the right certificate. USCIS generally wants the long form, which names both parents, and not a short extract. The State Department's reciprocity schedule lists which birth record each country issues and which one is acceptable. Look up your country before you order, because a perfect translation of the wrong document can still bring a request for evidence.

Don't translate and certify your own birth certificate for your own case, even if you are fluent. Officers expect the certification to come from someone independent. Our guide to certified translation for USCIS walks through the rest of the process.

FAQ

Questions about this translation

Do you need my original birth certificate?

No. A clear scan or a phone photo of every page is enough, including the back if it has stamps or notes. You keep the original. USCIS may ask to see it at your interview, so keep it somewhere safe.

Should I translate the long form or the short form?

Use the long form when you have it. USCIS and most consulates want a certificate that lists both parents. If your country issues only one version, the State Department reciprocity schedule says so, and we translate whichever one you have.

My certificate is handwritten or faded. Can you still translate it?

Usually, yes. Our translators read handwritten registry entries every week. Anything that really cannot be read is marked [illegible] in the translation instead of guessed, which is what USCIS expects.

Do you translate the apostille on my birth certificate too?

Yes. An apostille or a legalization stamp is part of the document, so we translate it with the rest. If it sits on a separate sheet, that sheet counts as one more page.

How do you spell names with two surnames?

Exactly as they appear on the certificate, with both surnames in their original order. If your passport or green card spells a name differently, tell us when you order. We add your spelling in brackets so the officer can match the documents.

How much does it cost and how fast is it?

A one-page birth certificate costs $24.95, and the certified PDF arrives within 24 hours for most languages. Same-day rush is $14.95 extra per page. Notarization is $25 if an office asks for it.
