Certified Divorce Decree Translation

$24.95per page (up to 250 words), certificate of accuracy included

We translate divorce decrees and divorce certificates into English and certify them for $24.95 per page. A civil registry divorce certificate is usually one page. A court decree can be anywhere from two to twenty, so we count the pages and send you the total before you pay. Each translation carries the signed certificate of accuracy that USCIS asks for. Short documents arrive as a PDF within 24 hours, and longer decrees get a firm date with the quote.

What we translate

Decree, certificate or annotation: what we translate

Countries record a divorce in different ways. A court issues a decree or judgment (sentencia de divorcio, jugement de divorce, Scheidungsurteil) that can run many pages, covering the parties, the grounds, custody, support, property and the date the judgment became final. Some countries also issue a short divorce certificate from the civil registry. Others only add a note to the marriage certificate.

We translate whichever of these you have, in full, including court stamps, the clerk's certification that the judgment is final, and any later amendments. Legal terms are given their US equivalent where one exists. Where none does, we keep the original term and add a short translator's note.

If the decree has a long settlement agreement or custody schedule attached, ask the receiving office whether it wants those pages. Whatever pages you do submit must be translated completely.

Who asks for it

Who asks for a translated divorce decree

USCIS needs proof that every earlier marriage of both spouses ended before the current one began. That means a divorce decree, an annulment or a death certificate for each prior marriage. It is filed with the I-130, the I-485, the I-129F fiancé petition and, for many applicants, the N-400 naturalization application.

County clerks may ask for the decree before issuing a new marriage license, especially when the divorce is recent. You may also need it to return to a former last name at Social Security or the DMV, to enforce custody or support orders in a US family court, or to have a foreign divorce recognized in your state.

Requirements

What USCIS checks in a divorce translation

The officer looks for the names of both former spouses, the date the divorce became final, and the court or authority that granted it. Those details have to be clear in the English translation. That is why we translate the finality stamp or the clerk's certificate as carefully as the judgment itself.

The translation must meet 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3): complete, in English, with the translator's signed certification of accuracy and competence. USCIS does not require a notary seal. Family courts and foreign consulates sometimes do, and we notarize the same day for $25.

If your divorce was recorded only as a note on the marriage certificate, translate the annotated marriage certificate instead. Our marriage certificate translation page explains what that covers.

FAQ

Questions about this translation

Do I translate the whole decree or only the divorce certificate?

Translate the document the office asked for, and translate it in full. For USCIS, check the State Department reciprocity schedule: for some countries it wants the full court decree, for others the civil registry certificate is accepted. Every page you submit must be translated.

How much does a 12-page decree cost?

Twelve pages at $24.95 come to $299.40. Pages are counted on the original document, up to 250 words each, and we confirm the count before you pay. A decree that long gets a firm delivery date with the quote.

Does USCIS need to see that the divorce is final?

Yes. The translation has to show the date the judgment became final, which is usually in a stamp or a separate clerk's certificate. Send that page with the decree so we translate it too.

Can you translate my US divorce into another language?

Yes, at the same $24.95 per page. People need this to remarry abroad or to register a US divorce in their home country, often with an apostille, which we can arrange.

Will the translation help me go back to my former name?

Yes, if the decree restores your former name. Social Security and the DMV accept the certified translation as proof, presented with the original. Order an extra certified copy for $10 for each office that wants to keep one.
